Figs with Blue Cheese and Honey

This is a dish with a very favorable compliments-to-effort ratio.  The salty savoriness of the cheese contrasts nicely with the sweet fruit and honey.  It’s easy to eat an entire plate all by yourself.

You’ll need

  • 1 pint fresh figs
  • 2 1/2 ounces blue cheese – I prefer one with a creamy texture.  I love strong blue cheese in this recipe, but it also tastes great with milder blues.
  • 1 tablespoon honey – or more to taste.  If you cheese is very salty or your figs aren’t very sweet use more honey.

Cut the figs in half lengthwise and arrange them on a plate.  Add a small dab (about the size of the chickpea) of blue cheese on each fig.  Drizzle with honey.

I told you it was easy.

You can make this dish ahead – just don’t add the honey until you are ready to serve.  Cover loosely with plastic wrap and store in the fridge for up to an hour.

If you have friends that don’t like blue cheese (gasp!) wrap a few of the cut figs with a thin strip of prosciutto instead.

Enjoy!
